Allison and Nick

When Allison and Nick asked me to shoot their wedding, I was excited, but I really had no idea what I was in for. They are two of the most kind, thoughtful, and loving people I have ever met, and their wedding was a true testament to the fact that everyone they meet experiences the same warmth and love from them that Kayla and I did while capturing their wedding.

To them, the ceremony was a chance to celebrate the joining of their two families, but it felt much more like an open invitation for everyone there to be a part of something powerful. I am humbled and grateful that I was invited to witness something so beautiful, and wish them the best as they continue to travel this world, opening their hearts and inviting others in.

Rappers with Cameras - Zine #2 Release Party

Rappers with Cameras is one of my favorite events in Seattle because of the way that it celebrates art, diversity, and, above all, community, while still being accessible and inviting to individuals of all walks of life and all ages.

You can read part of the origin story here, but the gist of the event is Geo and Thig invite their friends, family, and everyone else on the internet to come to a venue (historically the shared Blue Scholars - The Physics studio), mingle, drink, see the world from their perspective, and strengthen the community. One of the most impressive elements at RwC is that no individual population makes up a majority of the group, and there is rarely a feeling of in-group/out-group dynamics. I rarely hear standard questions like "what do you do?" when people are being introduced, instead conversations circulate about expression, art, music, mutual friends, and which photos were most moving.

Last night's event was no exception. There was a bit of dancing, lots of laughter, and a strong sense of community. People were there to celebrate art as much as they were there to celebrate each other. If you're in the Seattle area, stop by the next RwC. I strongly believe it will be worth your time.

Hollis Wong-Wear

For me, some of the most challenging people to photograph are those who inspire me. I don't know of many friends who motivate me more than Hollis does.

The hardest-working woman in Seattle and I ran down to Portland to buy her a computer last weekend. While we were there, we visited some of my favorite spots in the Pearl and shot some new photos for her website.

If you don't know who Hollis is, head over to http://holliswongwear.com/ and prepare to be amazed.
